REHAU’s MUNICIPEX® Pipe Accepted for Use by The Road Authority
REHAU announced today that its MUNICIPEX® product, a cross-linked polyethylene (PEX-a) water service line designed for the potable water industry, has been accepted for use by The Road Authority (TRA) in Ontario, Canada.
TRA is an internet-based resource utilized by infrastructure owners, consultants, contractors and product suppliers in Ontario to collaborate and share information. The web site also provides product information, services and technical solutions accepted for use by member municipalities. With its recognition from TRA, MUNICIPEX is now listed among the products reviewed and accepted for use throughout Ontario.
“We are encouraged by The Road Authority’s recognition of MUNICIPEX as accepted for use in Ontario and the subsequent product inquiries we expect from those in the public works sector,” said David Fuerth, business unit manager for REHAU’s Pipe group. “MUNICIPEX offers numerous advantages over copper in municipal potable water applications, including resistance to corrosion and mineral build-up, ease of installation, low thermal conductivity and an economical price tag.”
Lighter and more flexible than copper, MUNICIPEX® additionally offers greater ease of installation, with convenient connections that use standard compression joint valves and fittings.
Early success with REHAU’s MUNICIPEX started in the city of Calgary, where the piping met the high performance standards for a pilot project three years ago. Due to the success of MUNICIPEX in that demanding environment, the cities and towns in Southern Alberta have become consistent users of MUNICIPEX for water service applications. Now Ontario municipalities, like those in other Canadian provinces, are recognizing the benefits of MUNICIPEX as a proven alternative to copper.
All MUNICIPEX piping meets or exceeds the requirements of ASTM F876, F877, CSA B137.5 and PPI TR3, and is certified to NSF Standards 16 and 61. MUNICIPEX additionally meets the requirements of NSF P171 and ASTM F2023 for chlorine resistance. It is also produced in REHAU’s ISO 9001-certified manufacturing facilities.
The full MUNICIPEX product line includes large-diameter 1-1/4” (32 mm), 1-1/2” (38 mm) and 2” (51 mm) pipe in 100' (30 m) coils, as well as smaller-diameter 3/4" (19 mm) and 1" (25 mm) pipe in 100' (30 m) to 500' (152 m) coil lengths.
