… Drinking and Waste Water Systems, Beverage Tubing and Refrigeration Systems, Cable Ducts, Drainage Systems, Right Up to Geotextiles for Soccer Stadiums
The FIFA World Cup in Germany was the premier sports event of 2006. Around the fields of nearly every World Cup venue, REHAU was there to ensure reliable top quality, for example, with drinking and waste water systems, beverage tubing and refrigeration systems, cable ducts and drainage systems, right up to turf heating thanks to which the World Cup could have even been held in Winter.
With its product and systems solutions, the internationally active polymer processor is present in many arenas. Nearly 100 stadiums and training facilities of top teams from Turin to Moscow, from Vienna to Istanbul, from Bremen to Munich are equipped with intelligent systems for turf heating. REHAU is the European-wide market leader in this area. “Turf heating is very similar to sub-surface heating in buildings”, explains Jörg Neukirchner, Manager of the REHAU Construction Business Unit, with reference to the operating principle. “A close meshed network of particularly robust and durable pipes is laid under the turf and warm water can then be channeled through this pipeline when needed. This allows frozen fields to be “thawed out” and snow covers to be melted.” The complex system is controlled by weather-sensing regulating equipment which maintains a maximum lawn surface temperature of 2°C. Even though the turf heating systems was not needed during the World Cup, world-class players such as Ballack and Co. nonetheless profit from them. After all, the cross-linked polyethylene pipeline systems installed in the lawns of the most well-known stadiums ensure year-round training and playing conditions.
As do the successful polymer provider’s high-performance drainage systems: polymer sectional drainage pipes pick up rain water or snow melt directly below the turf and carry it to multipurpose pipes installed along the edges of the playing field. Larger diameter pipes then reliably carry the collected runoff to cisterns, storm sewers or directional and inspection shafts. REHAU also provides these system components to soccer stadiums. In this regard, the branch specialist calls upon its many years of experience in the area of roadway and civil engineering. Notes Jörg Neukirchner: “When it comes to providing everything from a single source: from turf heating over drainage and up to reliable irrigation systems and geotextiles which help stabilize the heavily used fields for years, we’re at the top of the ladder in all matters related to playing field systems.” Aside from recognized quality and single-source provision, it is primarily the service which the company offers with each individual project which underlines this statement. “Naturally, the specialist firms involved with the actual installation receive training from the very outset,” the strategic business unit’s manager goes on to note.
Beyond the millions of meters of REHAU pipe which have already been installed in European stadiums, other innovative product and system solutions from the polymer processor meet the highest demands - generally invisibly and totally taken for granted but always with palpable benefits. For example, constant temperature beverage tubing and refrigeration systems in dispensing equipment and vending machines guarantee fans both hygiene and efficient cooling. Huge volumes of data for the worldwide radio and television audience are carried through highly resistant cable ducts made of PVC. And in the sanitary area, both players and fans profit from the reliability and durability of the drinking and waste water systems provided by the polymer expert.
Soccer stadiums are but one example of the performance capabilities of REHAU on which customers throughout the world have come to rely. Like no other, the polymer processor continuously displays its competence with regard to polymer-based solutions in construction, automotive and industry. With its innovative capability and impressive array of products and services, the privately-held company is unique in the plastics industry. The company’s core competences include materials development, systems design and surface technology. Building on these capabilities, REHAU, with more than 14,000 employees at more than 170 locations, has taken its place as a worldwide driving force for innovation.
